「すいか割りはスポーツだ」がコンセプトの、山形県尾花沢市にあるJAみちのく村山が設立した「日本すいか割り推進協会」公認の「すいか割り専用棒」です。
「夏スイカ生産量日本一」の尾花沢市では毎年夏になると、「全日本すいか割り選手権大会」が行われます。大会は、日本すいか割り推進協会がつくったルールに則って行われており、この大会の公式棒として「すいか割り専用棒」が使用されています。

材料は埼玉県産材の西川材(ヒノキ)を使用。一本一本丁寧に製作しております。
※西川材とは・・・埼玉県飯能市を中心とした南西部地区で産出されているスギ、ヒノキの総称である。ゆっくりじっくり育つことでまっすぐで強度があり木目が整った木材となります。 強度が高く、たわみや変形しにくいのが特徴です。

☆☆☆すいか割り専用棒の誕生秘話☆☆☆
少年サッカーのコーチをしていた時代に毎年実施していたBBQの中でスイカ割りをしていました。
弊社は木工の仕事ということで毎年スイカ割り用の棒を用意する担当。数年に渡り、棒の素材、長さ、グリップの太さ、強度、割れやすさを検討し改良を重ね、ある時「これ！」売れるんじゃない？と言われ、もしかしたら!？という思いで商品化したものです。

・ヤニ(樹脂成分)について
温度や湿度が高いと木材に含まれているヤニ(樹脂成分)が表面に出やすくなります。乾いた清潔な布ウエスやキッチンペーパーに、市販のエタノールを含ませて拭き取るとベタつきを取ることができます。
※内側からの染み出ている部分は自然の特性ですので完全に取ることはできません。気になるようでしたら毎年買い替えることをお勧めいたします。

※⽊材から出るヤニ(樹脂成分)が原因での返品・交換はお断りさせていただきます。

Japan Suikawari Promotion Association Certified
suika wari bou

Suikawari is a watermelon splitting game often enjoyed in summer in Japan. This suika wari bou is officially certified by the Japan Suikawari Promotion Association, which was established by the Michinoku Murayama Japan Agricultural Cooperative in Obanazawa City, Yamagata Prefecture, to embody the principle that “suikawari is a sport.”

Obanazawa City, the top producer of summer watermelons in Japan, hosts the “All-Japan Suikawari Championship” every summer. The tournament is held in accordance with the rules set by the Japan Suikawari Promotion Association, and a suika wari bou is used as the official bat.

This bat is made of Nishikawa timber (Japanese cypress) produced in Saitama Prefecture. Each bat is carefully handcrafted.

•About Nishikawa timber
Nishikawa timber is the generic name given to cedar and cypress harvested mainly in the southwestern part of Saitama Prefecture. The trees grow slowly over time, and the wood is straight and strong, with a fine grain. It’s known for its high strength and resistance to bending.

•How the suika wari bou was born
Back in the day, when our CEO was a youth soccer team coach, the team held a suikawari contest every year. As coach, the CEO was responsible for providing a bat for the contest.
Over several years, we developed a bat whose material, length, grip thickness, strength, and watermelon-cracking power were perfect. After many refinements, someone said, “This could sell, couldn’t it!?” And that made us think, “You know, maybe it could!” So we turned it into a product.

In high temperatures and humidity, natural resin may appear on the bat’s surface. Wipe the stickiness off with a clean cloth or paper towel moistened with rubbing alcohol.

* Resin seepage is a natural characteristic of the wood and cannot be completely eliminated. If you find this inconvenient, we recommend replacing the bat each year.
